Hola Gente,
Well I want to start a little "book club" of sorts but for theatre, specifically the reading of plays.
East LA Rep is about to start on the September reading series: on the pulse
I'll post an event flyer later but I know that many of you will not be able to attend the reading because you are busy or don't live in LA. Well no worries because with permission from the playwrights I'll be posting the plays on this blog for your reading pleasure.
The US has amazing Latina/o playwrights and I want to make sure that you know about the them and their diverse work.
Up first will be The Medea Complex by Patricia Crespin
Patricia Crespín is a native of New Mexico. She has been involved with music and theatre since she was a very young child and although she still enjoys performance, writing has become her true passion.
She has a BA in Vocal Performance from New Mexico Highlands University and an MFA in Dramatic Writing from the University of New Mexico.
She has written several plays including two award winners, The Medea Complex and The Three Señorita Pigletitas y el Diablo the Wolf. Other plays include: We are Hispanic American Women…Okay?, Living Purgatory, The Hero Within and Confessions of a Hispanic American Woman.
Screenwriting credits include a co-written screenplay adaptation of We are Hispanic American Women…okay? and a new pilot series titled The Legend of La Llorona. She is currently working on a new screenplay adaptation of The Medea Complex.
Patricia aspires to become a voice for the people of New Mexico where the culture is rich, the people are beautiful, the land is breathtaking and the language is its own entity.
So start reading and get in touch with the writer or their agent if you are interested in presenting/producing their work.
